What is car wax, how do you apply it and how often? The members of our Corydon, IN Heritage Ford service department asked us to address these common questions in a short blog post. Here's our quick overview.

What Is Car Wax?

Car wax is an oil-based, waxy substance that seals your car's paint job beneath a protective layer. On top of making your car look new, sexy, and shiny, car wax also repels water, salt, and UV rays. Car wax may be synthetic or organic, such as car wax derived from palm, carnauba, coal, or silicones. It may contain additional oils and solvents to make it more pliable at room temperature.

How to Apply Car Wax

Apply car wax as a final step, after you've washed, rinsed, and dried your vehicle and applied any polishes or other exterior cosmetic treatments. Apply judiciously in even, small circles. Work your way around the entire vehicle, letting the wax set up. By the time you complete waxing your vehicle, it's time to buff off the wax with a microfiber cloth. For best results, apply car wax at least three times a year or as needed.
